Pranlukast is a cysteinyl leukotriene receptor-1 (CysLT1) antagonist that blocks the bronchoconstrictor and pro-inflammatory actions of leukotrienes C4, D4, and E4 in the airways, reducing asthma symptoms including bronchospasm, mucus secretion, and airway eosinophilia. It is used in Japan and other Asian countries for the maintenance treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis.
