Biologic Response Modifier (BRM)

BRM
Immunopharmacology

A broad class of agents derived from biological sources (recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies, cell therapies) that modify the immune response for therapeutic benefit. BRMs can enhance anti-tumor immunity, suppress autoimmune activity, or restore immune function. They differ from traditional small-molecule drugs in their size, specificity, and manufacturing complexity.

Exemples

  • Interferon-beta — immunomodulator for multiple sclerosis
  • Trastuzumab — anti-HER2 mAb with ADCC activity (breast cancer)
  • Lenalidomide — IMiD with multiple immunomodulatory effects (myeloma)
