Pharmacodynamics

The maximum effect a drug can produce regardless of dose (Emax). Distinguished from potency (dose needed to produce a given effect). A full agonist has higher efficacy than a partial agonist at the same receptor.

Examples

Morphine (high efficacy)
Buprenorphine (lower efficacy ceiling)
Codeine (low efficacy)
