MATE2-K (MATE2-K)
MATE2-KMultidrug and Toxin Extrusion Protein 2-K (gene: SLC47A2), a kidney-specific proton/organic cation antiporter expressed on the apical membrane of renal proximal tubule cells. Functions alongside MATE1 as an efflux transporter for organic cations from tubular cells into urine. The kidney-specific splice variant (MATE2-K) is the dominant renal isoform and contributes to metformin tubular secretion.
Examples
- Metformin renal secretion (complementary to MATE1)
- SLC47A2 polymorphisms affecting metformin response in diabetes
- Topotecan renal clearance via MATE2-K efflux
