OAT3Organic Anion Transporter 3 (gene: SLC22A8), a renal and blood-brain barrier uptake transporter with broad substrate specificity for organic anions including drugs, toxins, and endogenous metabolites. In the kidney, co-expressed with OAT1 on the basolateral membrane of proximal tubules but with partially distinct substrate profiles. Also expressed at the choroid plexus, contributing to cerebrospinal fluid drug disposition.
