Hexaminolevulinate
This prodrug is used as a photosensitizing agent to improve the detection of bladder cancer during cystoscopy. After being instilled into the bladder, it is absorbed by cancer cells and converted to fluorescent compounds, causing them to glow pink-red under blue-violet light while normal tissue appears blue. This technique helps doctors visualize and biopsy suspicious lesions more accurately.
