Sodium Zirconium Cyclosilicate
Sodium zirconium cyclosilicate is a selective potassium-capturing ion exchange compound used for the treatment of hyperkalemia in chronic kidney disease and heart failure. The microporous zirconium silicate framework selectively captures potassium ions (and ammonium ions) in the gastrointestinal tract in exchange for sodium and hydrogen ions, reducing intestinal potassium absorption and lowering serum potassium levels. Unlike older potassium binders, it has high selectivity for potassium over calcium and magnesium.
