A quantitative evaluation of the relationship between the dose of a substance and the magnitude of its toxic effect, forming a core component of risk assessment. Characterizes the NOAEL (no observed adverse effect level), LOAEL (lowest observed adverse effect level), and benchmark dose. Used to establish reference doses (RfD) and acceptable daily intake (ADI) values for regulatory decision-making.
