OCT2 (OCT2)

Organic Cation Transporter 2 (gene: SLC22A2), the primary renal uptake transporter for organic cations, expressed on the basolateral membrane of renal proximal tubule cells. Mediates the first step of renal cation secretion and is a key determinant of metformin renal clearance. FDA guidance recommends evaluation of OCT2 interactions for renally cleared cationic drugs.
