The potassium salt form of clavulanic acid, a suicide inhibitor of beta-lactamase enzymes that irreversibly binds to these bacterial enzymes and prevents them from destroying beta-lactam antibiotics. It is combined with amoxicillin or ticarcillin to restore efficacy against beta-lactamase-producing resistant organisms. It has little intrinsic antibacterial activity itself.

Etki Mekanizması

Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), preventing transpeptidation and cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains. This weakens the bacterial cell wall, leading to osmotic lysis and cell death.
