Sulfacetamide
Sulfacetamide is a sulfonamide antibiotic used topically in ophthalmic preparations for bacterial conjunctivitis and blepharitis caused by susceptible organisms, and in dermatological preparations for seborrheic dermatitis, rosacea, and acne. By inhibiting bacterial dihydropteroate synthase, it prevents folic acid synthesis in susceptible gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Its ophthalmic use is well established due to adequate corneal penetration and a favorable safety profile.
