Crofelemer
A plant-derived medication made from the red latex of the croton tree, used to treat non-infectious diarrhea in HIV/AIDS patients taking antiretroviral therapy. It works locally in the gut by blocking chloride ion channels in intestinal cells, reducing excess fluid secretion. Because it is minimally absorbed into the bloodstream, it has few systemic side effects.
