Protein C concentrate (human) is a plasma-derived preparation of the naturally occurring anticoagulant Protein C, a serine protease that when activated by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex on endothelial surfaces inactivates clotting factors Va and VIIIa, thereby limiting thrombus propagation. It is used for the treatment and prevention of venous thrombosis and purpura fulminans in patients with congenital severe Protein C deficiency.
