Reteplase is a recombinant deletion mutant of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) that binds fibrin in thrombi and catalyzes the conversion of plasminogen to plasmin, which lyses fibrin clots and restores blood flow in occluded vessels. It is approved for the treatment of acute myocardial infarction and is used for management of massive pulmonary embolism and acute ischemic stroke.
