Somatropin is recombinant human growth hormone (hGH) with an identical amino acid sequence to pituitary-derived GH, used for treatment of growth hormone deficiency in children and adults, Turner syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, chronic kidney disease-associated short stature, and other growth disorders. It binds to GH receptors on target tissues, activating the JAK2-STAT5 signaling pathway to stimulate IGF-1 synthesis, linear bone growth, muscle anabolism, and lipolysis. Multiple delivery systems are available including daily subcutaneous injection devices.
