Yttrium chloride Y-90 is a radioactive salt containing yttrium-90, a pure beta-emitting radioisotope with a 2.7-day half-life used as a source of radioactive yttrium for labeling antibodies and other targeting molecules for cancer therapy. It is the building block for radioimmunoconjugates such as Y-90 ibritumomab tiuxetan used in non-Hodgkin lymphoma treatment. The energetic beta radiation (2.28 MeV) from Y-90 produces a crossfire effect that kills surrounding tumor cells.
