Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide and antiparasitic agent that acts by disrupting sodium channel function in insect nerve cell membranes, causing paralysis and death of parasites. It is primarily used topically to treat scabies and head lice infestations, and is also employed as a fabric treatment for malaria prevention by repelling and killing mosquitoes.
