Acetylcysteine
A medication that replenishes glutathione, a key antioxidant in the body, and is used as the primary antidote for acetaminophen overdose to prevent liver failure. It also thins and loosens thick mucus in the airways, making it useful in conditions such as cystic fibrosis, chronic bronchitis, and to clear mucus before respiratory procedures. When given intravenously for overdose, it is most effective when started within eight hours of ingestion.
