A selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, ondansetron blocks the serotonin signaling that triggers nausea and vomiting. It is used to prevent these symptoms after chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. With the molecular formula C18H19N3O, it was among the first agents of its class and transformed the tolerability of cancer treatment by controlling emesis that older antiemetics could not.

A serotonin receptor antagonist preventing chemotherapy-induced and post-operative nausea and vomiting.
