Sodium monofluorophosphate is a fluoride compound used as an active ingredient in fluoride toothpastes for caries prevention, releasing fluoride ions after enzymatic hydrolysis in the oral cavity to promote remineralization of tooth enamel. Unlike sodium fluoride, it requires hydrolysis by salivary phosphatases before fluoride ions become bioavailable for enamel incorporation. It is widely used in oral hygiene products as an alternative fluoride source.
