Cholic Acid
A primary bile acid that facilitates the absorption of dietary fats and fat-soluble vitamins in the small intestine by emulsifying lipid droplets. It is used therapeutically to treat inborn errors of bile acid synthesis, rare metabolic disorders that impair the body's ability to produce bile acids naturally. Oral replacement with cholic acid helps restore normal bile flow and prevents progressive liver damage.
