Icosapent Ethyl
This purified omega-3 fatty acid ethyl ester, derived from fish oil, is used to reduce cardiovascular risk in adults with elevated triglycerides alongside statin therapy. Unlike other fish oil supplements, it contains only EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) without DHA, which is thought to contribute to its unique cardiovascular benefits. It has been shown to significantly reduce major adverse cardiovascular events.

Competitively inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in the mevalonate pathway of cholesterol biosynthesis. This reduces intracellular cholesterol, upregulates LDL receptor expression, and lowers circulating LDL cholesterol.
