Tocopherol Acetate
Tocopherol acetate (vitamin E acetate) is the esterified, more stable form of alpha-tocopherol that is hydrolyzed in vivo to the active antioxidant vitamin E, which protects cell membranes from oxidative damage by neutralizing lipid peroxy radicals as a chain-breaking antioxidant. It is used as a nutritional supplement for vitamin E deficiency and is included in multivitamin preparations, and has been investigated for prevention of age-related macular degeneration and Alzheimer's disease through antioxidant mechanisms. Its ester form provides greater stability against oxidation during storage compared to free tocopherol.
