Thonzonium
Thonzonium is a quaternary ammonium compound with surfactant and antimicrobial properties that acts as a penetration enhancer by reducing surface tension and disrupting microbial membranes, facilitating penetration of co-administered antimicrobial agents into ear canal tissues. It is used as an excipient/adjuvant in otic combination preparations containing corticosteroids and antibiotics for otitis externa. Its ability to disperse coagulated or necrotic debris in the ear canal enhances drug contact with infected tissue.
