An oral third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic prodrug that is hydrolyzed in the intestinal wall to the active cefditoren. It is used to treat community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, and skin infections. The pivoxil moiety releases pivalic acid during absorption, which may interfere with carnitine metabolism with prolonged use.

Cơ chế tác dụng

Disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. The resulting cell wall defects cause osmotic instability and bacteriolysis.
