Succinylcholine chloride is a depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent used for rapid sequence intubation and tracheal intubation as an adjunct to anesthesia, acting as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist that causes sustained depolarization of the motor end plate, resulting in initial fasciculations followed by flaccid paralysis. Its extremely rapid onset (60 seconds) and short duration (10-15 minutes) due to hydrolysis by plasma cholinesterase make it the agent of choice for emergency intubation. It must be used with great caution in patients with hyperkalemia risk.
