Tilbroquinol is a halogenated hydroxyquinoline derivative with amebicidal and anti-infective activity, used in combination with tiliquinol (as Intetrix) for the treatment of intestinal amebiasis and amoebic dysentery. It acts within the intestinal lumen to directly kill Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites through disruption of cellular metabolism and membrane integrity. Its luminal activity makes it effective for intestinal but not extraintestinal amebiasis.
