Tetradecyl sulfuric acid (sodium tetradecyl sulfate, STS) is an anionic detergent sclerosing agent that damages vascular endothelial cells through detergent-mediated disruption of cell membranes, inducing endothelial injury, thrombus formation, and subsequent fibrous obliteration of the treated vessel. It is used for sclerotherapy of varicose veins and spider veins, and for the treatment of venous malformations. The concentration used determines whether small or large vessels are effectively sclerosed.
