Trimethaphan
Trimethaphan is a ganglionic blocking agent that competitively antagonizes nicotinic acetylcholine receptors at both sympathetic and parasympathetic ganglia, producing rapid and controllable hypotension. It was used for controlled hypotension during surgery and for the management of hypertensive emergencies, particularly aortic dissection. Its short duration of action allowed for precise blood pressure control via intravenous infusion.
