An alkylating chemotherapy agent belonging to the nitrosourea class that works by crosslinking DNA and disrupting RNA synthesis, killing rapidly dividing cancer cells. It is used to treat brain tumors, multiple myeloma, Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. Significant bone marrow suppression and pulmonary toxicity are important concerns during therapy.
